Abstract With the development of High-speed Rail, problem of transportation of large numbers of passengers on large corridor have been solved and travel time has been greatly shortened between long-distance areas. However, a large number of passengers brought by High-speed Rail flowed into the city, which brought great opportunities and challenges on the connection between urban transport and HSR station. In order to undertake remote "time-space compression" effect by High-speed Rail, traveler's demand should be recognized for better urban transport planning and development. This paper selected Suzhou North High-speed Rail station which located in the suburb of the city as the study case, used perception questionnaire data of Suzhou, and with the method of single factor variance analysis, analyzed the perceived need of travelers with different demographic characteristic for the 5 transport modes connecting HSR station, which are bus, private car, taxi, subway and tour coach in Suzhou. The study found that: ① The overall perception of traveler on connection of Suzhou's urban traffic and HSR station turned out to be the medium level, reflecting that there existed certain gaps between overall urban traffic development and urban tourism development goals in the future of Suzhou, the overall level of the urban traffic remained to be further improved. ② Groups with different demographic characteristics had perception differences on different traffic mode and a corresponding rule was found between the gender and price, age and convenience, occupation and social problem, monthly income and external facilities, trip purpose and time as well as travel frequency and circuit design.
